The PMMA Silent Drills "HELLO" The letters H-E-L-L-O, forms the work HELLO. Our simple way of welcoming our guests for whom this special day has been set. We hope that this day will be the start of a long and lasting friendship among us. Distinguished individuals like you who played an important role in our period of sacrifices and challenge the very persons we salute and respect with pride. The letters PMMA... From an innocent boy to a man of valor and honor and from an ordinary student to a PMMA midshipman with a very promising future is something to be happy about. It's an uncommon transformation of a human being yet very few institutions could effect such transformation. We are very proud that PMMA stands among these institutions. With these bold letters P-M-M-A, we would like to show our most profound gratitude to our Alma Mater. HEART As the famous group, the Lettermen, once said, "Love is a many splondored thing." guests, eventhough we live in a regimental kind of system, it is not true that our hearts are made of stone. Instead, we are true human beings with five senses working effectively...able to see, able to hear, able to feel and love. The PROPELLER The PMMA offers a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, proudly the first and the only institution in the land which offers this course. The propeller represents the Engineering course of PMMA where the country's finest Marine Engineers come from. On board a ship, the Engineers are responsible for the ship's power and auxiliary systems. Without the technical prowess of the Marine Engineers, the ship is nothing but a powerless floating mass of metal. ANCHOR This is a familiar symbol, the anchor. It is generally symbolic of the Maritime Industry. But what is more in this heavy piece of metal? Well, it is the very object that can keep the vessel secure to the ground regardless of the wind or current, thus it symbolizes firmness in direction or in decision-making. The quality trait which the Academy instills in the mind of Midshipmen. The anchor is also the adapted symbol of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation which is offered by the Academy. Under this course, the Midshipmen are also trained to be efficient and effective, world class that is the art and science of Navigation. The THREE CIRCLES These symbolizes the three rules of success...obey, obey, and obey. In PMMA, the midshipmen are usually known for being trained in the fine art of obedience. These rules are implemented to maintain the Academy's prestige with highest distinction as well as to preserve the code of conduct based on the principles of...RIGHTEOUSNESS (Kawastuhan), HUMILITY (Kababaang-loob) & COURAGE (Kagitingan). "X" for DON'Ts This symbolizes that a Midshipman does not lie, cheat or steal. Thos three don'ts are the main essence of the PMMA Honor System whereby every midshipman is disciplined and indoctrinated. It is thereby expected that a midshipman lies on the principle of the Honor System to distinguish himself from other cades or students outside PMMA. By this concept, a PMMA'er is molded to be an officer and a gentleman. INVERTED "V" The inverted V of the spearhead symbolizes the PMMA society's renewed vigor and enthusiasm towards the fulfillment of its objectives and achieving its goals. Look at it upside down and it turns into "V" which stands for victory. This letter signifies the triumph that we had as we pursue our objectives, yet the quest for the better never stops there. The PMMA aims for greater heights and works had to reach them. FLOWER Symbol of beauty, challenges and simplicity...the Flower. Every midshipman emerged from different places of the achipelago. Recruited to be a simple but competitive member of the Corps of Midshipmen of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy and have been combined for unified task and mission, to upgrade the Maritime Industry. These means a coloful but challenging field associated with hardships and laughters, to test our unity and camaraderie from all walks of life. GLARING SUN The source of light, of strength and of hope...The Glaring Sun. The Academy has been founded on the ideals of professionalism based not only in the molding of the educational needs of her midshipmen that she accepts rather she integrated in her goals the value of HOPE. The hope of giving her graduates a bright future thru job opportunities established during his midshipman's shipboard training period. It is always the dream of each graduate to land a job. The graduates from this institution are not only ensured with jobs, they're even handed in a silver platter the best opportunities the most challenging, adventurous and well compensated jobs as merchant marine officers. CLOCK "Time is Gold" as the old saying goes. For the past few minutes, we have been displaying a slice of the PMMA standard of training. Such enables every midshipman to keep time to maximize its value. The Letters A-D-I-O-S stand for ADIOS We all know that everything must come to an end - with a kiss we say - so long, but not goodbye because we have just begun. We hope that with this performance, we are able to convey our own sentiments or gratitudes for sharing with us this moment...Hope that our paths will meet again in the near future.
